Sample Code You Will Write

Every code block below is runnable Python 3.x. You will type these yourself, run them, and modify them.

1. Hello, World with input

name = input("Enter your name: ") print(f"Hello, {name}! Welcome to Python.")

2. Simple calculator

a = float(input("Enter first number: ")) b = float(input("Enter second number: ")) op = input("Enter operator (+, -, *, /): ") if op == "+": result = a + b elif op == "-": result = a - b elif op == "*": result = a * b elif op == "/": result = a / b if b != 0 else "Cannot divide by zero" else: result = "Invalid operator" print("Result:", result)

3. Loop โ€” multiplication table

n = int(input("Enter a number: ")) for i in range(1, 11): print(f"{n} x {i} = {n * i}")

4. List comprehension โ€” even squares

even_squares = [x**2 for x in range(1, 21) if x % 2 == 0] print(even_squares) # Output: [4, 16, 36, 64, 100, 144, 196, 256, 324, 400]

5. Dictionary โ€” word frequency counter

text = "python is easy and python is powerful" words = text.split() freq = {} for word in words: freq[word] = freq.get(word, 0) + 1 print(freq) # Output: {'python': 2, 'is': 2, 'easy': 1, 'and': 1, 'powerful': 1}

6. Function with default argument

def greet(name, greeting="Hello"): return f"{greeting}, {name}!" print(greet("Rahul")) print(greet("Priya", "Good morning")) # Output: # Hello, Rahul! # Good morning, Priya!

7. File handling โ€” save and load to-do list

def save_tasks(tasks, filename="tasks.txt"): with open(filename, "w") as f: for task in tasks: f.write(task + "\n") def load_tasks(filename="tasks.txt"): try: with open(filename, "r") as f: return [line.strip() for line in f.readlines()] except FileNotFoundError: return [] tasks = ["Buy groceries", "Finish assignment", "Call mom"] save_tasks(tasks) print(load_tasks())

8. Object-oriented โ€” bank account class

class BankAccount: def __init__(self, owner, balance=0): self.owner = owner self.balance = balance def deposit(self, amount): if amount <= 0: raise ValueError("Deposit must be positive") self.balance += amount return self.balance def withdraw(self, amount): if amount > self.balance: raise ValueError("Insufficient balance") self.balance -= amount return self.balance def __str__(self): return f"{self.owner}'s account: โ‚น{self.balance}" acc = BankAccount("Rahul", 1000) acc.deposit(500) acc.withdraw(200) print(acc) # Output: Rahul's account: โ‚น1300

9. Exception handling โ€” safe input

def get_number(prompt): while True: try: return int(input(prompt)) except ValueError: print("That's not a valid number. Try again.") age = get_number("Enter your age: ") print(f"You will be {age + 1} next year.")

The Project

In the final weeks, you build one complete project that ties everything together. Choose from these options.

๐Ÿ“‹ Student Management System

Add, view, search, update, and delete student records. Store data in a CSV file. Uses classes, functions, file handling, exception handling, and loops. Most popular project choice.

๐Ÿงฎ Calculator with History

A calculator that performs arithmetic operations and saves the calculation history to a file. Uses functions, exception handling, and file I/O. Good for beginners.

๐Ÿ“ To-Do List Application

Add, complete, delete, and list tasks. Save tasks to a file so they persist between runs. Uses lists, dictionaries, file handling, and loops.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Expense Tracker

Record expenses by category, view totals, and export a monthly summary. Uses dictionaries, file I/O, and basic data analysis. Good bridge to data work.

Portfolio note: Your project is a learning project, not commercial software. Present it in interviews or college applications as coursework โ€” honest framing earns more respect than exaggeration.

Technical Interview Questions

Q1: What is the difference between a list and a tuple in Python?
A list is mutable โ€” you can add, remove, or change elements after creation, and it uses square brackets []. A tuple is immutable โ€” once created, its elements cannot be changed, and it uses parentheses (). Tuples are faster and are used when the data should not change (like coordinates or configuration constants).
Q2: What is the difference between == and is in Python?
== compares values โ€” do two objects hold the same data. is compares identity โ€” do two variables point to the same object in memory. Example: [1,2] == [1,2] is True, but [1,2] is [1,2] is False because they are different objects.
Q3: What are *args and **kwargs?
*args allows a function to accept any number of positional arguments as a tuple. **kwargs allows any number of keyword arguments as a dictionary. Example: def f(*args, **kwargs) can be called as f(1, 2, name="Rahul").
Q4: What is the difference between a shallow copy and a deep copy?
A shallow copy creates a new object but the nested objects inside are still shared with the original. A deep copy creates a fully independent copy, including all nested objects. Use copy.copy() for shallow and copy.deepcopy() for deep.
Q5: What is the purpose of the __init__ method?
__init__ is the constructor method of a class. It runs automatically when an object is created and is used to initialise the object's attributes. Example: def __init__(self, name): self.name = name.
Q6: What is the difference between a function and a method?
A function is defined independently and called by name. A method is a function defined inside a class and called on an object of that class. Methods always take self (the instance) as the first parameter (unless they are static or class methods).
Q7: What is exception handling and why is it used?
Exception handling uses try, except, else, and finally blocks to catch and handle runtime errors gracefully instead of crashing the program. Example: converting user input to a number can raise a ValueError โ€” handling it lets you ask again instead of crashing.
Q8: What is the difference between range() and xrange() in Python?
xrange() existed only in Python 2 and returned an iterator. In Python 3, range() behaves like Python 2's xrange() โ€” it returns a lazy sequence, not a full list. xrange() is no longer used.
Q9: What is a lambda function?
A lambda is a small anonymous function defined in a single line. Example: square = lambda x: x * x. Useful when you need a short function for a moment, often with map(), filter(), or sorting. Not meant for complex logic โ€” use def for that.
Q10: What is the difference between append() and extend() in a list?
append(x) adds a single element x at the end โ€” even if x is a list, the whole list becomes one element. extend(iterable) adds each element of the iterable individually. Example: [1,2].append([3,4]) gives [1,2,[3,4]]; [1,2].extend([3,4]) gives [1,2,3,4].

Prerequisites & Course Selection

Prerequisites

  • Basic computer operation (typing, opening files, using a browser)
  • Logical thinking โ€” you do not need advanced maths
  • Willingness to practise code daily, even for 30 minutes
  • No prior programming experience needed

Python vs Data Analytics

Choose Python if your goal is programming, automation, scripting, software development, or logic building. Choose Data Analytics if your goal is reporting, dashboards, and SQL. If you want both, do Python first, then Data Analytics.

Do I need a laptop at home?

Not strictly required โ€” the lab has systems. But students who practise at home progress faster. Python is free to install on Windows, Mac, or Linux. The instructor will help you install it. [VERIFY WHETHER LAPTOP PRACTICE IS RECOMMENDED]

Will this help in college?

Yes. Python is used in BCA, BSc IT, BTech, and BCom (data) programmes. If you are in Class 11 or 12 with Computer Science, this course strengthens your fundamentals. It is useful for school projects and later college coursework.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a maths or science background for Python?
No. Basic Python programming does not require advanced maths. Logical thinking matters more. If you can follow step-by-step instructions and are willing to practise, you can learn Python โ€” regardless of your stream.
Which Python version is taught?
Python 3.x, the current standard. Python 2 is no longer supported anywhere. The exact version installed in the lab (e.g., 3.11 or 3.12) can be confirmed during your demo visit.
Will I become a software developer after this course?
This course builds a strong programming foundation and prepares you for further study. It does not by itself make you a job-ready software developer. To move toward developer roles, you would continue with web frameworks (Django/Flask), databases (SQL), Git, and real project work. We are honest about this โ€” do not expect developer-level jobs after one foundation course.
Is NumPy and Pandas included?
NumPy and Pandas are introduced only if the batch curriculum includes them. They are more fully covered in the Data Analytics & Power BI course. If your goal is data analysis with Python, combine both courses.
What is the fee for this course?
Fees vary by duration and batch type. Contact us for the current fee structure. Call +91-88267-66381 or +91-80769-44810.
Can I attend a demo class before paying?
Yes. A free demo class is available. Visit the Saraswati Enclave centre, see the lab, and attend a live session before deciding. Call +91-88267-66381 to book.
